speaking muscles

We are all well aware of the ‘fear factor’.
As Jerry Seinfeld pointed out:  it seems to be America’s most common phobia…even ahead of dying – which  would mean that at a funeral, most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy.
To make matters more difficult, did you know that it takes no less than 72 of the body’s muscles working together to produce human speech?
On average we speak about 150 words per minute. The challenge for the muscles is that they must do different things to pronounce different words.  Depending on the volume and pitch these words are spoken at also changes how the muscles work.
Bottom line, speaking requires more coordination than most of us realize.  It is considered the most complex neuromuscular activity your body will do.
So with so much going on, it’s no wonder we lose our train of thought, stutter, or get our ‘foot stuck in our mouth” from time to time…
